Romanian destination: Sighisoara and its wonderful Festival of Medieval Arts and Crafts

As the end of the month is quickly approaching, I decided to write a post about a wonderful Romanian destination which I have visited several times – Sighisoara. This lovely town, placed in the very heart of Transylvania, hosts one of my favorite summer events: the Festival of Medieval Arts and Crafts, happening in Sighisoara each year in July. 

The event, one of the biggest medieval music festivals in Romania, shall take place between 27-29 July 2018. This year’s theme is “Medieval Legends”. So, if you do not have any plans for next weekend, you should visit Sighisoara, thus entering a world of stories, magic, knights, medieval weapons, sword plays and juggles with flags and fire.

Sighisoara itself is a great holiday destination. Some even say that it is one of the best preserved fortified towns in Europe. Founded in the 12th century, this picturesque town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1999. Once you get to Sighisoara, go for a walk through the narrow streets, visit the nine towers, the historic buildings, squares and churches. You will surely feel like walking back in time.

While you are here, do not miss Sighisoara's Citadel, the small Citadel Square where, in the old days, public executions were being held, the Clock Tower, dating back to the 14th century, the Church on the Hill and the Scholars' Stairs, connecting the Citadel Square with the Church on the Hill.

For accommodation, I recommend Pension Casa Saseasca (http://www.casasaseasca.com/), a picturesque guest house originally decorated, with traditional motifs and wooden furniture, placed in the center of the Citadel. Each time I stayed here I have been warmly welcomed by the hosts and enjoyed the wonderful views the cozy rooms have to offer.
