Bologna, Italy’s La Gorda

Considered one of Italy’s most underrated cities, Bologna should be on every traveler's list. This is the perfect place for Italian food lovers, as well as a university city, known for its special vibe and colorful buildings.

The old city, with its narrow, cobbled streets and splendid buildings will take you back in time. Every visit in Bologna should start from Piazza Maggiore, placed in the heart of the city, the social hub where everyone gathers in the evenings. Around it you’ll find important historical buildings, such a Palazzo Comunale, Pallazo d’Accursio or Basilica di San Petronio, dedicated to the patron saint of Bologna, Saint Petronius. Bologna’s architecture is impressive, with imposing palaces and churches from medieval times, waiting to be discovered.

Do not miss the many porticos scattered around the city, especially in the university area.

Also, Bologna National Gallery hosts some very nice art works dating back to the 13th century and going up to the 18th century. The collection is split into two sections: the Accademia Clementina and the Gallery of the Academy of Fine Arts. If art is on your mind, this is the place to be, as the museum is easy reachable from Piazza Maggiore.

Since you are in Bologna, try some juicy tagliatelle with ragu, the delicious tortellini, the traditional mortadella or a decadent slice of pizza. There are plenty of good restaurants to choose from in order to taste these great Italian dishes.
