Brittany region, France: a land for explorers.

Brittany (“Bretagne”) region in France holds a special place in my heart. This is where I have spent one of the most beautiful holidays ever, as well as the first reason I felt in love with France and decided to return here as often as I have the chance.

So, for all those interested in visiting a less promoted region of France, I warmly advice you to rent a car and visit Brittany for as many days as possible.

Saint Malo

My camp in Brittany has been the picturesque port town of Saint Malo, where I have stayed for a week during August. As soon as you get here, you will feel the special charm of this wonderful town, with origins heading back to the 6th century. The locals are the most welcoming and the scenery is breathtaking. On top of that, this is the land of salted caramel (“beurre sale”), Breton Pancakes (“crepes”), fresh mussels (“moules”) and oysters (“huitres”), so all seafood and sweets lovers shall be ecstatic about what they may find in Saint Malo.

Once you get to Saint Malo, just take your time to enjoy the town. Walk along the cobbled streets of the old town. Due to the impressive tide, you will not be able to enjoy lying on the beach as much as you would probably like. In Saint Malo, as in all other sea towns and villages in Brittany, the sea makes the visitors' program.

For my stay in Saint Malo, I have chosen Le Grand Hotel des Thermes (https://www.le-grand-hotel-des-thermes.fr/en/), a luxurious hotel, housed in a beautiful building right on the beach, with rooms having breathtaking sea view and a wonderful SPA. Do not miss it when if you reach this region in France.

For day trips from Saint Malo, there are many destinations you can easily reach by car, such as:

The village of Dinan

Dinan is a very well preserved town in Brittany, giving the profound impression that time has stood still. Admire this medieval town, with old buildings, paved streets and small shops and have a walk on the city walls, if you have time.

The village of Dinard

Dinard is at a 20 minutes drive from Saint Malo, also on the coast of north-eastern Brittany. Once a fishing village, it has completely transformed during 19th century, when luxury houses started to be built here, becoming the so called "Nice of the north". Dinard is a beautiful seaside resort, with wonderful beaches and dazzling houses.

La Pointe de Corsen

This is the most western spot in France, offering a spectacular view over the sea. Do not hesitate to visit it, while you are in Brittany.

Mont Saint Michel

Mont-Saint-Michel island and the surrounding bay are on the UNESCO list of World Heritage since 1979. Located where Normandy region meets Brittany, this site offers an impressive view of the sea. Here, you will find Norman Benedictine Abbey of St Michel, placed at the peak of the rocky island of Mont Saint Michel.
