Do You, Do You Saint Tropez?

When talking about Saint Tropez, certain themes come to mind. First of all, this is the place where the classic 1964 French comedy "The Troops of St. Tropez", with Louis de Funes as leading actor, has been filmed.

If the movie doesn’t ring a bell, you surely remember the movie’s famous soundtrack: Do you, do you Saint-Tropez? (Douliou Douliou Saint-Tropez), sung by Geneviève Grad (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wAINRUR_vbQ).

Saint Tropez is also connected to the image of the famous French actress Brigitte Bardot. Brigitte has starred in the movie “And God Created Woman", that has been extensively filmed in Saint Tropez, in 1956. So, it was Brigitte Bardot the one who has put Saint Tropez on the celebrities map. In fact, the village is filled with pictures, painting and postcards of this notorious actress.

Saint Tropez is also about sandy beaches and warm Mediterranean sea. Spend at least a few hours on the chaise-longue, reading or enjoying the beautiful views the sea has to offer.

During the past years, Saint Tropez has become a symbol of luxury, as many of the richest people in the world come here for the summer and spend their time at exclusive beaches, such as Nikki Beach, Pampelonne Beach or  Plage de Tahiti. It is a common image in Cannes or Nice to see wealthy people taking private helicopters and flying to Saint Tropez, in order to attend the private parties happening there.

The village has a indisputable charm, with its beautiful harbor and impressive yachts. The harbour should be the starting point for visiting Saint Tropez. The promenade area is full of  boutique stores for those in search of souvenirs. Also, you'll see many artists, trying to capture the beauty of the village.

Next, have a walk along the narrow bright streets, chic stores and cozy restaurants of Saint Tropez. You will discover many places for lunch or dinner, serving the most astonishing French dishes.

Speaking of restaurants, I had a wonderful Saturday lunch at G’envie restaurant, in the very heart of the Saint Tropez.

Saint Tropez has few inhabitants left (roughly 5000), but many tourists coming each summer, bringing with them the fresh air of youth and fun. Just like the songs says:
Tous les garçons sont beaux à Saint-Tropez
Toutes les filles sont belles, belles à croquer”.
