I have just returned from Nessebar, one of the most beautiful places one can visit in Bulgaria, perfect for those who love blending the days at the beach with visiting historical monuments.
First of all, you should visit the old town of Nessebar, situated on a rocky peninsula, connected to the new town by a bridge. On this bridge, just before entering the old city, you’ll pass by the most well-known symbol of Nessebar: the wooden windmill.
To discover the old town, bursting with historical sites, simply stroll along the narrow streets and admire the traditional houses, all having the same structure: the first floor is made of stone, while the upper floor is made of wood. These days, most of these houses have small shops downstairs, luring the tourists with attractive handmade souvenirs, sweets, condiments, cosmetic products and jewelries.
Nessebar is a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1983, because of the well-preserved beautiful churches in the old town. In fact, you will find here 13 ancient churches.
Also, because Nessebar has been a fortified town since Roman times, you can still see in the old town remains of such ancient fortifications.
Your holiday in Nessebar during the summer should include a few days of lying on the beach. You will find small beaches in and near the old town.
You may book sunbeds and umbrellas on the beach, at moderate prices, and enjoy the cocktails served by the many terraces near the beaches.
For food and drinks, head to the old town to find the best restaurants in Nessebar. Most of them are up on the cliff, for the visitors to enjoy the view of sea at their feet.

Try the Bulgarian food specialties, as well as the fresh fish and seafood dishes. My favorite restaurant in Nessebar is Plakamoto (https://www.facebook.com/Plakamoto/), usually very crowded, due to the good service and wonderful food it serves.
